by Chris Graham • Automatic fuel monitoring systems have saved hundreds of hours of staff time, stream lined vehicle evaluation and provided the foundation for strengthening performance targets at Eddie Stobart.
The Carlisle operator switched to Triscan monitoring equipment after a major review of its fuelling arrangements. The move has allowed Stobart to merge its fuelling data simply and efficiently, bringing together information from its on-site Triscan installations, with the
returns from its fuel card provider UK Fuels.
Dale Foster, transport fleet engineer, says: "A reduction of just 0.1mpg across our fleet equates to about £500,000. This equipment allows us to pull off the vehicles' mileage and compare this with sales. We can set pence-per-mile targets for the business and provide a guideline to profitability.
"We used to check vehicle mileage and fuel stocks manually at each depot. Now it is all done automatically, so we can achieve in a few hours what literally took days."
