Having increased staff numbers, managing director Pascal Quesnel wants to take on more tradesmen, but he is concerned about the lack of young skilled technicians and trainees. "It's similar abroad," he says. "In Germany, at one point, the shortage was so acute that many engineering firms were forced to recall retired employees to bridge the skills gap."
Today, school leavers don't seem to want dirty jobs, but he worries that within a decade, vital engineering skills will be lost forever. He sees experienced trades people as important assets and is looking to develop a good pool of talent and experience.
