FOLLOWING the appointment of Geoffrey Clarkson as general manager of Eastern National Omnibus Co., new managers have been appointed to Midland Red (Express) Ltd and the two coaching units which were also under Mr Clarkson's control — Black & White at Cheltenham, and Wessex National at Bristol.
Andrew Vernon becomes manager of Black & White Motorways, which at the same time will be transferred to the overall management of Cheltenham & Gloucester Omnibus Co. Mr Vernon is currently Manchester operations manager for National Travel (West). He joined the industry in 1968 as a student traffic apprentice with Ribble and since 1974 has held a variety of traffic and managerial appointments with the National Travel companies.
John Salmon is appointed manager of Wessex National, which will be transferred to the overall management of Bristol Omnibus Co. Since 1981 Mr Salmon has worked with National Welsh where he is currently area manager for Aberdare. After graduating from Oxford University in 1977, he joined NBC as a senior management trainee at West Yorkshire Road Car, subsequently transferring to Trent Motor Services.
John Steel becomes manager of Midland Red (Express) Ltd., which will now control only the coaching operations based on Digbeth, Birmingham. Mr Steel, is currently the assistant operating manager (West) for Eastern Counties Omnibus Co. He joined the industry in 1965 as a conductor with United Automobile, becoming the company's depot superintendent at Ripon in 1972 then moving three years later to East Midland Motor Services as area manager (South). He joined Eastern Counties in 1978.
