WE READ with some interest the road test of the Volkswagen LT31 carried in your May 19 issue. Whilst we have no comment to make concerning the performance of the tested vehicle, we were a little surprised at the models against which the comparisons were made in that they excluded our own Iveco Daily range.
Your road test report hence, includes an error when it says "only Renault's T35 Master High Roof Van. . . has a higher capacity." The Iveco Daily capacity is also higher at 12.0 cu.m.
C. H. Christianson
Marketing Director Iveco (UK) Ltd
Mr Christianson is correct in his statement that the 3.5 tonne gvw Iveco Daily 35.9 high roof van with its 12.0cu.m body has a higher capacity than the 3.31 tonne gvw Volkswagen LT31 with its 11.6cu.m body.
However, the LT31, Freight Rover 310 Sherpa, Renault T35 Master and Mercedes 310 high roof models, all achieve their respective gross vehicle weights ranging from 3.1 to 3.5 tonnes gvw on single rear wheels. The Daily 35.9 high roof version is only available fitted with twin rear wheels and for this reason was not included in the comparison histograms despite having many similarities to the other models.
