• John Laing's plant-hire offshoot EPL has put three MAN L2000 7.5-tonners into service equipped with Finnish-made high-reach access platforms. The Bronto hydraulic platforms have a working height of up to 22m.
Fleet engineer Alan Cowper ordered the trucks after seeing Bronto-equipped L2000s at the truck's launch in Germany. The chassis were sent from the factory via Finland to have the platforms fitted.
Likely applications include helping to erect nets round buildings in central London to protect them from the unwelcome attention of pigeons.
Outriggers are fitted to ensure stability when the platforms are operating, hut they are so compact that the truck will only obstruct a single lane.
