• Purfleet haulier BJ Myers has replaced 10 Iveco EuroTech 38-tonne GCW 4x2 tractive units with the same number of Renault Magnum AE'420s.
According to director Tony Myers, the move heralds a change from Iveco to an all-Renault fleet.
The first seven Magnums are already in service. They include four lowheight versions that couple with 104m3 semi-trailers, currently working under contract to IFAC of Belgium.
Three more are due for delivery in August with Renault's TBV semi-automatic transmissions.
All are on 4.1m wheelbases and powered by Renault's 415hp (305kW) 12-litre charge-cooled diesels.
E A specially lightened twin-steer Magnum has entered service with Great Yarmouth operator Tony Hudson.
Weight has been pared by 100kg by shortening the rear overhang f rom 1,000mm to 747mm, fitting lighter rear wing stays and air-tank brackets and remov ing the extra night heater fuel tank. Hudson's Magnum is also one of the first in the UK to have a mid-lift axle instead of the standard tag version; this saves another 440kg.
