PLANS to extend a scheme offering truck drivers free twice-yearly health checks on its ferries after a successful pilot on its Stranraer-Belfast route.
The firm wants drivers on all its UK and Ireland ferry routes to have key health signs such as weight, cholesterol, blood pressure and diet checked by and discussed with health professionals.
The pilot was created in response to the changing eating habits of truck drivers on board Stena's ferries, Frank Nie uwenhuys, freight commercial manager for the UK and Ireland, says: thought truckers preferred fries, pies, burgers and chips so I was surprised when I heard the news from onboard services that drivers were asking us to introduce more healthy options."
In response the ferry company has introduced a number of menu changes.
