A CONTAINER OPERATOR must wait to see what action will be taken against its licence after it appeared before the North Western Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell on a range of drivers hours and tachograph offences. Felixstowe-based Gipping Container Services holds a licence for 45 vehicles and 65 trailers based at Liverpool and Manchester.
Traffic examiner Sarah Bell said that an examination of the company's tachograph records for July 2004 revealed a series of offences by nine of the 27 drivers based at Liverpool and Manchester, seven of whom were subsequently prosecuted in February.
Questioned by Jonathan Ripman, for the company, Sarah Bell said the 436 charts had been awaiting anal ysis when they were presented to her. There was ru evidence that the company was causing or permittin; offences. She agreed that the false records were not case of fuse pulling or electrical interference, but wet. cases of running without a chart in the tachograph fo distances varying between two and 59km.
