A PRINTING firm and one of its drivers have been fined more than 11,800 after one of its vans was found to be overloaded.
Harlow-based Crystal Print UK and its driver, Godswill Amawo, both pleaded guilty to exceeding the permitted gross weight of the vehicle and using it in a dangerous condition.
Ostrin, prosecuting for Vosa, told the Hertford magistrates that a Luton-bodied Ford Transit driven by Amawo was stopped in a roadside check.The first axle was overloaded by 10%, the second by 23% and the gross weight exceeded by 42%. The vehicle was issued with an immediate prohibition notice. Ostrin told the court that the overload compromised the vehicle's control and made it dangerous. The company apologised to the court, saying it did not realise the vehicle was overweight on the day in question.
Crystal Print UK was ordered to pay £1208 fines and costs, while Amawo was ordered to pay £595 fines and costs. His driving licence was also endorsed with three penalty points.
