• Operators of a chain of restaurants in London's West End, Old Kentucky Restaurants Ltd.. set Capital Motor Co. Ltd.. Bedford main dealers, Hornsey, a problem when ordering a box-van for local delivery work. The difficulty was that the vehicle had to be capable of carrying both frozen food and general catering supplies.
After considering other factors involved. such as limitations of length and West End parking, Capital Motors asked Cravens Homal• boy. Rochford, to build a van with an intermediary bulkhead fitted so as to provide a separate compartment at the front end, with a near-side entrance door. This compartment is insulated throughout to a depth of 4in. with polystyrene and lined with 14 s.w.g. alloy sheet. An alloy treadplate overlay is fitted on the floor and welded to form a one-piece tray. The interior dimensions of the compartment are 4ft long, Oft 9in. wide and 6ft high. The insulated 3ft-wide door swings on to the body side.
The rear section measures 11ft by 7ft by 6ft Bin. and has timber slatting at lft centres from floor to cant-rail level, with shelves on sides and bulkhead.
The body is mounted on a 151in. wheelbase Bedford KOL chassis and is plated for 8.1 tons g.v.w.
