• Proposed changes in the structure of the Lorry Driver of the Year competition were not confirmed at last week's executive committee meeting in Coventry. A number of centres have expressed the opinion that the suggested elimination of Class A would not be in the best interests of the competition. This class is for vehicles up to 16ft in length and weighing 1 ton.
The proposals were that classes should start at 3; tons unladen and that there should be no distinction between box vans, tankers and flats in the articulated classes. The committee had in mind that the 10 finalists are normally required to run off the final round in four vehicles, three of which require the driver to hold a heavy goods vehicle driving licence. In view of the introduction of the h.g.v. driving Licence on February 2 the executive committee considered that the structure of the competition would require to be examined in some detail before the 1970 event begins. The matter has to be considered at a full meeting of the organising committee on November 6. All centres have two representatives on this committee.
