• At a recent meeting the Executive Council of the National Association of Furniture Ware housemen and Removers agreed to sponsor a two-year programme of research by Mr. Cyril Bettye of the School of Business and Ma nagement at the City of Leicester Polytechnic into problems of management control in the removals and warehousing industry.
The objectives are first to establish systems for operational and cost control integrated with control accounts. Later it is hoped to consider the relative profitability of various types of traffics and operating methods.
In order to carry out this research, the active participation of about 15 to 20 member firms may be required and Mr. Bettye hopes to receive co-operation from firms representing a cross-section of the various types of operation to be found in the industry. A number of members has already offered help, and any other firms interested in participating should contact the general secretary for further details.
The research programme will be under the overall direction of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management at Loughborough University of Technology.
