• The Port of London Authority. British Railways and National Carriers Ltd. jointly announce that with effect from the close of work on Friday, July 25, conventional rail services direct to individual berths at Tilbury Docks will be withdrawn.
Facilities for railborne traffic after July 25 will be as follows: la) BR will make arrangements for rail traffic in wagon-load quantities to be carted by road vehicles between the dock and a railhead at the adjacent Tilbury Riverside Station where traffic will be transferred to and from rail.
(b) National Carriers Ltd. will collect and deliver by road vehicle, small consignments of less than full wagon loads.
(c) Freightliners Ltd. operates daily services between the main industrial centres of Great Britain and its London terminals and provides road collection and delivery services between these terminals and Tilbury Docks. Direct trunk services to and from Tilbury Rail Container Terminal will be introduced as soon as circumstances permit.
