• One-man double-decker buses could be in operation in Edinburgh this year, forecast Mr. Ronald Cox, transport manager
of Edinburgh Corporation Transport, last week. A "considerable numberof the buses could be introduced, resulting in the elimination of staff shortages because manpower requirements would be reduced.
A greater incentive would be offered in the form of higher rates of pay for singlemanned buses, he stated, when the National Joint Industrial Council for the bus industry was discussing in London new conditions for drivers of double-deck and single-deck one-man buses. A working party, comprising representatives of the TGWU and management members were at present discussing the issue and on what routes the buses would he operated in Edinburgh.
Fifty chassis for double-deck o-m-o bodies had been produced and would be delivered sometime next month.
