plated for 24 tons g.t.w. With the type of irr ivisible load I normally carry! run at 30-32 tons g. t. w. The vehicle conforms to C and U Regulations dimensionally and I sometimes carry a split-load, observing gross and axle weights.
I am told I am in order by exceeding the plated weight with a one-piece load, but I was under the impression that it is an offence to exceed the plated weight under any circumstances. Could you please clarify the legal position?
A You are quite in order when carrying Pt indivisible loads to exceed the plated weight of the outfit. Your vehicle will be classed as a dual-purpose type so that when you are carrying normal general type loads you must comply in full with the C and U Regulations and the plated weights.
When operating the vehicle for indivisible loads, you must comply in full with the special types order which includes giving 48 hours notice to the chief officer of police of every district through which you intend to pass and if the load exceeds 8f1 in width one extra attendant must be carried, if it exceeds 9ft 6in. two extra attendants must be carried.
