BACK ON the market—after a gap of 14 months—is Ford's integral A-Series parcels van. The vans are being produced by the Willenhall Motor Radiator Co Ltd using chassis cowls produced at Ford's Langley plant.
Bonnet, radiator grille, headlamp surround and bezels are standard items, but new front wings moulded in grp are added to increase the vehicle overall width by 20.3cm (8in) to 213cm (84in).
The van body is of composite construction with one-piece zinc-coated pressed steel sides, timber floor over steel sub frame and front end; rear corner panels, wheel valances and one-piece roof all moulded in glassfibre.
The design features low loading heights from 73.6cm (29in) to 80cm (31.7in) depending on specification, walkthrough cab layout and Double rear doors hinged through 270 degrees. Internal load-lashing rails, exterior rubbing strips and half or full bulkheads are available as options.
Production has already started and output is expected to reach up to 18 units per day, 90 units per week, The finished vans will be marketed through Ford's Truck Special ist dealer network initially in Britain, but it is expected that these vehicles will be available in Europe by the end of this year.
The Willenhall company has a prototype psv version which is said to have received a full Certificate of Fitness. Fitted with 20,'21 seats the body is trimmed internally with plastics-coated alloy panels, but as yet there are no definite production plans for the vehicle.
