• Three former bosses of tipper manufacturer WilcoxSeadyke are building bulk trailers in competition with the new owners of their old firm.
The three have set up a new company, Wisbech Bulk Systems, in Wilcox-Seadyke's former Wisbech factory. They plan to produce a full range of trailers and bodies ranging from powder tankers to walking-floor trailers.
Wilcox-Seadyke went into receivership in December and its other operation, at Market Deeping, Lincs, was taken over in March by Bowden Trailers, a subsidiary of the French group SESR. It is now trading under the name EM Wilcox and building traditional Wilcox tippers, Wisbech is headed by George Booth, formerly managing director of Wilcox-Seadyke's predecessor Seadyke. His fellow direc tors are Stephen Crown (works) and Malcolm Brown (financial). Both are former directors of Seadyke. Bowden acquired the manufacturing rights, "We've had to get in an outside designer," says Booth.
"We couldn't appear to be using our knowledge. Our trailers are redesigned — they do look very different."
Booth plans to sell about 150 units in the first year and hopes to turn over £3m.
