We have been made aware that a number of most, exhaustive tests
e recently been concluded by the Daimler Co., Ltd., with a new paletifin carburetter, which is known as the Notax, a speciality designed for use with paraffin, benzote or petrol, as desired, which is being placed on the market by the Notax Carburetter Co., of 8, Penarth Road, Cardiff. Although we are in possession of the official consumption results and the report as to other conclusions which were derived from the road and bench tests carried out by the Daimler staff, we are not at the inouient permitted to give publicity to the actual figures which were achieved, but, from a cursory examination of them, we are quite sufficiently satisfied that they are of such a nature as to warrant our early publication of a brief description of this vaporizing apparatus.
We are enabled to reproduce herewith a sectional elevation and other views of the Notax device. Its characteristic features consist of a special form of automatic balanced valve, which controls the regulation of hot air, an arrangement of what are known as hot-air bridges (these are also shown in section), and a jet supply detail with an adjustable needle for fuelregulating..purposes. The liquid fuel itself is controlled by a float of the normal type. . it will be seen that the carburetter is jacketed. Heat is obtained from a pipe fitted into the exhaust branch between the second and third cylinders. A shutter is fitted in the exhaust branch just behind this outlet, in order to force the gases down the pipe to the jacket. This shutter should be adjustable from the driver's seat.
