• Overseas Courier Service (London) has fitted its fleet of 64 light vans with on-board Black Box monitoring equipment to improve driving habits and reduce insurance premiums.
The Vigilant vehide computer,
produced by ICS of Cardiff, monitors items such as mileage, speed and hard braking Data is record
ed on to a personal cartridge one for each driver—and analysed after every shift.
The units cost £450 apiece, with another £2,000 for a PCbased data analysis package, but this has been offset by a reduction of £18,600 on the fleet's insurance premium, as well as savings in consumables and unauthorised use, and reduced time off the road.
