Just as we were beginning to think that Volvo had gone to ground, we were able in November to publish a report on the slimmer and fitter F10.
The 4x2 tractive unit with day cab weighed in at 6.5 tonnes and still maintained Volvo's traditionally high standard of driver comfort.
Gear changing with the positive and light electro-pneumatic range-change box was very smooth and the improved noise sealing around the lever.
Over the three days of the operational trial the weather might have been kinder. As it was, it rained for much of each day's running. Fuel consumption was further impaired by a faulty thermostat so that, overall, the F10 returned a disappointing 41.79Iit/ 100km (6.76mpg) with Volvo's latest turbocharged and air to air charge-cooled 9.6-litre engine.
