• American-owned SafetyKleen has expanded its mechanical parts cleansing service to the body refinishing industry with the introduction of an improved spray gun cleaner, a portable abrasive blaster and a stocked abrasives cabinet.
All can be installed on a nocontract, no-deposit basis. In
stead, customers are charged for the periodic replacement of materials and machine maintenance.
Safety-Kleen's new Swedish-built pedestal-type spray gun cleaner, which is made to British Standards requirements, has two main components; the upper cleansing bowl and a lower cabinet holding the 25-litre drum of solvent.
Operating from a 6.0 bar (90psi) air supply, the machine gives an initial wash from running recirculating thinners followed by a vigorous rinse from fresh solvent.
Vacuum, induced by a venturi air mover, extracts vapour from around the bowl during the cleaning operation. The machine can also clean out the spray gun's internals by holding the nozzle jet against the suction head and operating the trigger.
A monthly machine service and solvent replacement costs just over Ell per week, increasing to £30 for a busy workshop that needs the most frequent weekly service. Safety-Kleen's Canadianmade mobile abrasive blaster (and up to 10kg of grit) installed free of charge will cost £25.90 for a four-week service arrangement to an existing customer. It uses a nominal 8.5 bar (125psi) air supply and 240' volt mains electricity.
The pistol's tungsten carbide head with its 4.5m-long feed hose can be equipped for awkward work and has adjustable blast swathe. After use, spent abrasive, paint and rust are sucked into the wheeled upright cannister, then separated using a four-phase filtration system before the grit is recycled.
Busy body-repair shops can save. time in measuring material use and stock reordering by taking up SafetyKleen's abrasives cabinet offer. Customers need only pay for the packs of abrasives used from an agreed stock held in its own secure cabinet that service agents will restock as regularly as necessary.
