• Lucas Electrical says that its Bluecol product is the biggest selling anti-freeze on the market and consists of 95% ethylene glycol with 5% corrosion inhibitors, a formulation exceeding the British Standard (BS 6580), giving maximum protection for all engines, including aluminium, and is safe against frost damage down to 49°C.
Bluecol features a boiling point undiluted of 174°C — the BS 6580 requirement sets 'boiling point undiluted' at 150°C minimum. Products with boiling points less than 150°C can evaporate rapidly which lowers protection. Says Lucas: "As Bluecol is ethylene glycol based, it is safe, unlike insiduous methanol blends."
The Bluecol range also includes Screenwash+, an additive formulated to combat subzero temperatures. Bluecol's aerosol de-icer, also contains no methanol and completes the range.
The new retail price of one litre size of Bluecol antifreeze at £2.09 shows less than a one per cent price rise over 1985.
To help dealers maximise sales, Bluecol has produced an eye-catching range of circular window stickers, with a winter theme using its product colours of red, white and blue.
