• West Midlands express parcels firm The Last Post is to open a further 30 UK depots this year and is moving into mainland Europe with a Continental partner.
The company currently runs 53 depots on a county basis from a Walsall hub, with a network of licencees. New licencees are being recruited to strengthen the national network, which includes Scotland where six satellite depots are operated from a Bathgate hub.
Managing director Colin Lee says that his target market is the "ugly" parcel which is awkward to handle and is often turned down by some of the larger express parcels firms.
Last Post licencees operate vehicles ranging from small vans to artics and set their own tariffs with customers.
Negotiations are underway for a reciprocal venture with a partner operating in France and Belgium. The Last Post has just tied up a partnership deal with Irish parcels company Blueflite.
