AFTER experimenting for some months, G. Scammell and Nephew, Ltd., the engineering and bodybuilding concern of Fashion Street, London, E.1, has produced a standard 'form of cab for Fordson industrial tractors. The main longitudinals are by 11-in. steel angle members connected at the rear by a fiat steel cross-member and curving up at the front behind the bulkhead, through which bolts connect to front bracket members. These hang by Simms Jurid links from brackets fixed to the engine bell-housing. The brackets are steadied by forward supports from the crankcase.
The longitudinaIs hang at the rear by shackles from an inverted semi-elliptic spring mounted transversely on brackets carried up from the rear axle, these being fixed by means of the original axle-case bolts. • The company has introduced a special fitting for Fordson axles giving two heights of drawbar coupling, suitable for trailers built to be drawn by lorries, as well as trailers built fur use with tractors. The rear transverse member of the cab is arched to accommodate the ,higher drawbar attachment.
On the steel sub-frame an oak framework is built carrying pine side panelling and matchboard roofing covered with canvas that is bedded in white lead. The accommodation is simple, the cab having a seat for the mate, a locker and a two-piece safety-glass screen. The list price is no.
