• The number of goods vehicles (general and farmers' together) in use in Great Britain in the third quarter of 1971 was 1,617,000, according to a census carried out by the DoE. The total is virtually unchanged from that of the previous year (1,616,000).
A breakdown by class (1970 totals in brackets; multiply by 1000) is as follows: not over If tons unladen weight, 941 (933); over I+ tons, not over 3 tons, 189 (197); over 3 tons, 425 (422); farmers' vans and lorries, 62 (64).
