• Renault is investing "several million pounds" this year in its private dealer network to boost sales in the heavy end of its vehicle range.
The commercial vehicle subsidiary RVI is about to announce that it is paying to relocate a privately owned major dealership. Two others will follow.
Renault's dealerships have long been viewed as weak with sales confined to light vehicles.
'rhe company has already invested £10 million over the past two years to boost sales at the heavy end of its range. This has begun to pay off with the Magnum tractive unit and the Maxter rigid
unit selling well. Its UK market share for 3.5-14 tonne vehicles rose from 3.4-4.3% in the first few months of 1994, compared with the same period in 1993.
The company is about to launch a contract hire service to meet the demand of clients with full order books who don't want to buy equipment just yet.
RVI posted a 1230 million loss last year, a slight drop on the previous year's figure. European sales declined 13%.
