IN THE WAKE OF THE introduction of the fair fuel stabiliser, Wincanton has called on the government to allow operators to run longer trucks on UK roads to encourage fuel savings, writes Roger Brown.
Gordon Scott, MD retail, says: “Wincanton welcomes [the duty cut and the introduction of the stabiliser], on behalf of the industry. It is clear that the current economic conditions will continue to have an impact on us all.
Scott says the take-up of longer vehicles by the industry could result in total fuel savings of £1.8 bn annually.
“These savings are poised to come at a crucial time, as the industry searches for a solution to mitigate against rising costs.” A spokeswoman for the Department for Transport says that an announcement was due “shortly”. CM understands it will be made before the end of the month.
