THE HAMMERSMITH depot of tipper-operators D. J. Murphy and Co Ltd were described by a vehicle examiner at a Metropolitan public inquiry last week as being "dreadful". The yard was covered in mud, and the records produced had not been correctly kept. The company had one vehicle suspended for one month.
After the vehicle inspector's examination two immediate prohibitions were issued on two of Murphy's tippers, but before this had been reported to the LA an application by the company to add two vehicles to its licence was granted.
The deputy LA, Mr J. L. M. Bowyer, described the original maintenance facilities at Murphy's yard as presenting "a little bit of a gloomy picture". Mr Patrick Murphy, director of the company, said that the new maintenance system would be carried out at the premises of another company with better facilities.
