The company plans to collect waste vegetable oil from restaurants, schools and hotels in the area for processing into biodiesel. As well as producing biodiesel for use in other business fleets, it stops the oil being drained into landfill sites and sewers.
Kym Leatt, director of Envirogroup, says: This all comes at a time when more businesses are keen to recycle their used vegetable oil supplies, while other businesses appreciate the environmental benefit of using biodiesel over traditional diesel."
• The UN cross-agency body UN Energy will welcome this method of biodiesel production, having recently been critical about the results of mass biofuel production in a recent report. It highlighted serious consequences if forests are razed for plantations, forcing up the price of food, land and agricultural commodities.
