A TOTAL OF 38 MPs have backed the FairFuelUK (FFUK) campaign so far, after the Road Haulage Association (RHA) called on operators for help in a bid to quash August’s 3ppl fuel duty rise. Last week (CM 24 May), FFUK founder Peter Carroll asked readers to email their MP to show their opposition to a further rise at bit.ly/contactyourMP. The ‘email your MP’ push has proved a huge success, so much so that FFUK has surpassed its target of 25,000 letters sent to MPs via its website a fortnight in, with 25,867 sent. It is now aiming for 50,000 emails.
RHA chief executive Geoff Dunning says: “It’s great that MPs have come out in support of scrapping the August 3ppl increase. Since October 2010, every penny increase has added £398 a year to hauliers’ operating costs.” • FFUK has won the CIPR’s Public Affairs campaign of the year. Finalists included Macmillan, Maitland Political and The Royal British Legion.
