• Evidence of further hardship in the road transport industry has surfaced with company failures in the sector continuing to accelerate. Four administrative receiverships or administration order appointments were recorded during September, taking the total number of failures among truck operators to 58 over the last 12 months.
Only 47 hauliers went to the wall during 1995. Accountants Deloitte & Touche, which compiled the figures, says that in contrast to road hauliers, British business as a whole is enjoying low levels of company failures. The total of 83 receivership and administration order appointments recorded in September are the lowest for six years and 42% down on September 1995, it says.
