• A delivery driver who was run down with his own van as he tried to stop it being stolen was killed in a "deliberate and coldblooded act", a court was told.
Father-of-two Jason Weaver was dropping off a parcel at Caerphilly shopping centre last April when two men drove off in his van. He flagged down passing motorist Derek Craig and they chased the thieves. He then found his vehicle parked and approached it.
Ian Murphy QC, prosecuting, told Cardiff Crown Court that
Matthew Watkins, who was driving the van, accelerated "hard and fiercely" towards Weaver. Watkins denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter; Bishop pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated vehicle taking.
The case continues.
