• Members of the RHA are being advised to bring to the notice of their accountants a report which shows how their costs have increased. Thereport follows an investigation by the Centre for Interfirm Comparison for the RHA and it concludes that between 1966 and 1968 hauliers should have increased their revenue by an average of 4.8 per cent to offset higher costs for finance.
The study covered 10 companies which in 1968 had a total revenue of about £30m and a licence payload capacity of about 42,000 tons. For these firms, various cost increases including higher costs for finance and vehicles had made an average rise of 4.8 per cent. One conclusion reached by the study was that the level of charges by these firms was not being increased sufficiently to allow them to modernize their fleets as quickly as they would have wished.
