• A Scammell Routeman DD 24/26 tons plated, 14ft 4in. wheelbase eight-wheeler weighing 6 tons 19cwt recently came into the Wisbech bodybuilding works of Bopen Ltd. and left carrying a Roadliner type "B" alloy bulk ash tipping body at a kerbside weight of 8 tons newt lqr—so that the weight of the tipping gear, subframe, body and other component parts as fitted by B open amounted to only 1 ton 12cwt lqr.
The body size is 18ft long by 7ft 8in. wide by 4ft 1 lin. deep, all inside measurements which, with the boxed headboard around the tipping gear rams, give an internal capacity of 26 cu. yd.
The body is tipped by an Edbro 5LN twin ram front end gear, and an outrigger subframe has been employed to give a minimum overall height. Alloy rear and twin-steer mudguards have been fitted to keep down weight. The vehicle was completed for Bentleys of Bishop's Stortford through Arlington Motor Co Ltd., at Harlow.
