of that J. well-known tyre distributing concern, the Marsham Tyre Co.. Ltd. Early in '1920 the managing director, Mr. C. H. Guyatt, formed the opinion that the motor trade should have what he considered to be a better and more complete tyre service.„ Starting in /a small way by opening premises cover-. ing only 160 sq.:ft., success came soon,. and early in 1922' new premises covering 1,500 sq, ft, proved necessary. In 1926 'another advance Was made, and
buildings covering 4,300 sq. ft. tiFere taken in London, whilst tbe first of the provincial branches .vas opened in Leeds, the latter being the first building specially constructed for Marsham tyre service.
From 1925 the progress was almost continuous; and at the outbreak of war the company Was operating 33 tyreservice stations in various parts of the countiy, the majority specially built to _meet trade requirements. In all, these
stations' Covered 'a floor space of nearly . • 250,000 sq. ft., whilst arrangements were made and facilities became available for night service for long-distance traffic.
Meanwhile the staff had not been overlooked, and for many years, a pensions scheme has been in operation, whilst the house organ records letters and information from members serving
in the various theatres of war. For post-war days it is hoped to conclude extensive plans for further service, which were halted in 1939.
