A LINCOLNSHIRE-BASED haulage company is bucking the trend expanding its truck and trailer fleet to take advantage of an increasing workload.
Boston and Immingham firm Benton Bros has ordered five new Daf 95XF 480 tractors with Super Space Cabs; they are due to be delivered on 1 September.
Also arriving soon will be a batch of 34 new Dennison trailers comprising 30 sliding skeletals and four customer-liveried curtainsiders. They will service its contract with Norwegian paper manufacturer Peterson.
Martin Benton, the family firm's managing director, says the Dafs will be the first in the fleet to be equipped with digital tachographs. -The last 10 trucks we bought arrived before the [tachograph] deadline,he explains. "I just had it in my mind that we'd tackle it at the end of the year."
The trucks' September delivery date also means they will arrive prior to the Eurc.)-4 emissions standard coming into force. Martin adds:"We thought we'd take it one step at a time.
"We've got the infrastructure in place for the digital lachos and we'll have a good three months to get all staff accustomed to the changes," he says. "We'll then tackle Euro-4 next year."
The firm runs nearly 100 trucks and 300 trailers on container haulage and distribution work.
