• Frome, Somerset-based reefer operator JR Harding & Sons has taken delivery of the first new Scania twin-steer tractors with lifting mid-axles to be sold in the UK.
The lifting axle helps reduce tyre scrub and drag when running unladen, and improves manoeuvrability. All Scania twin-steers now come with air on second-steered and drive axles.
Scania will continue to sell its popular 6x2 tag-axle tractor alongside the lifting axle twinsteer. It says the new twin-steer means operators who want a lifting mid-axle will no longer have to buy a 4x2 and have a specialist conversion.
Hardings has bought four R113-320 twin-steer models with Topline cab and optional Streamline aerodynamic cab package.
They will operate on UK fridge work pulling 26-pallet triaxle semi-trailers.
