Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Association of Load Restraint Equipment Manufacturers (ALREM) has merged with the Made Up Textiles Association (ARITA).

The combined group represents the manufacturers of all textile-based load security products, including side curtains, webbing slings, load restraints and tarpaulins. MUTA acts as

the overall umbrella group, with ALREM retaining its own identity as a specialist division.

The first priority identified by the new organisation is to launch a campaign for guidelines covering the design, manufacture and use of tensioned side curtains. It is already holding discussions with the British Standards Institute to draw up

a suitable standard, with a view to possible future adoption throughout Europe.

These moves are fuelled by concerns from within the haulage industry that while non-tensioned tarpaulins are governed by a British Standard, there is no similar legislation in force covering the more common curtainsiders.
