THE specialist working group of the Inter

national Organization for Standardization (180) committee dealing with freight containers has now confirmed, with minor exceptions, the findings of the Genoa meeting on the important question of corner fittings.

Modifications recommended

Recommendations are being made concerning modifications to the basic corner fitting designs. These take into account the various loading factors as determined by operational requirements. It is hoped that these recommendations will be confirmed by the ISO technical corn

mittee for freight containers in the near future so that the draft ISO recommendations on corner fittings can go forward.

The working group also reviewed documents relating to the specification and testing of freight containers, and agreed that static tests should be recommended as an alternative to dynamic testing. The revised documents will be submitted to the technical committee for approval at its next plenary meeting in Moscow in June.

The working group also agreed to recommend that provision be made for the handling of containers by means of straddle carriers and similar devices as an optional feature.
