It is believed that a batch of kingpins have been made from faulty material and these could be now in use.
The items are kingpin part No. 17321 or kingpin kit No. 40933, supplied by Bamber Bridge Parts headquarters from December 1, 1976. This part is used on these models:— • Seddon 34 :4 • Seddon 13 : 4 • Seddon Pennine 4 and 6 bus and coach chassis • Seddon Pennine RU bus chassis • Seddon Municipal refuse vehicles All SA distributors have information on identifying the faulty type of pin.
The part is easily identifiable — if there are circular tool marks indicating a turning operation the pin is good; if it has horizontal marks made by a milling type cutter it is a suspect one.
