ROBBERS POSING as policemen hijacked a truck in South Yorkshire last week, just a fortnight after a similar attack in Walsall.
The latest hijacking occurred on the M1 when the driver of a Mercedes-Benz HGV stopped after being flagged down by a white Volvo car with flashing lights.
The truck driver stopped on the hard shoulder of the southbound exit sl[proad at Junction 36 at Hoyland last Tuesday evening (24 June). The driver was then told by men in police uniform to hand over documents and to sit in the Volvo. He was then driven off by two of the gang and left tied to a metal gate on a road off the A628.
The truck was stripped of its £250,000 load. Both the truck and the Volvo were later found burnt out, the truck in Doncaster and the car on the Woodhead Pass.
The attack follows another incident on 12 June, where robbers posed as police and stole a load from a truck parked on the Maybrook Industrial estate in Walsall (Truck driver dragged from cab in robbery', CM 19 June), In both robberies, the gang were wearing highvisibility police vests.
A spokeswoman for South
Yorkshire police said last week that officers investigating the
latest robbery were aware of the previous hijacking "but were not linking the two at this stage".
