Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Severn Trent Water

Phil Nycz, regional manager for Severn Trent Water, attached to commercial operations. Recently agreed a contract with QI Van System to have about 600 vans fitted with storage systems. The systems we use vary due to the numerous different applications within the company. When we decided that we needed to purchase new racking equipment, in line with our gradual replacement of Peugeot vans with Citroens, we were obliged to put it out for tender. The areas that we focused on when looking at what the different manufacturers offered were quality, productivity and, of course, cost. These factors were formulated into a table so we could cross-reference and compare.

"Other parameters looked at were health and safety issues, the weight of the systems — this is very important as the wrong one could push the vehicle over the GVVV once all the relevant equipment is in — and durability. Also, in some cases, it may be useful if the system is removable. We worked very closely with the supplier (01 Van Systems) when deciding what we needed for each application. You can start to get tunnel-vision if you do the design process internally, so it's best to work with the supplier as a team. We consulted them and listened to their advice and ideas. It's best to form a partnership with your supplier so you can bounce any thoughts off them.

"If I was to give advice to anyone looking to install a system I would say find out if it is tested, look at the health and safety issues, ask yourself is it designed for the purpose you want to use it for. Don't get carried away when it comes to cost but, at the same time, don't underestimate your needs."
