THERE ARE A growing number of ex-hauliers who will no doubt take great comfort from knowing the Road Haulage Association and the Freight Transport Association are being proactive in the fight for fairer fuel duty rates.
Meanwhile, for the rest of us, it would be reassuring if both organisations could spell out their achievements so far on this topic. But please, spare us the same old rhetoric of "meaningful dialogue" when regaling us with details of the latest negotiations. The fact is you have achieved little, if anything at all, on this subject.
While both organisations have declared they will not support direct action over fuel issues, I hope responsible operators would not support illegal action either. Nevertheless, it does require something more than years of fruitless dialogue with disinterested and transient politicians. Wake up to reality chaps: you have capitulated far too readily at the hands of successive government ministers.
