• The Traffic Commission is calling to public inquiry the haulier which operated the tipper involved in the Sowerby Bridge crash in which six people died last September.
Further action against Skipton, North Yorks-based Fewston Transport is being considered by the police and the Traffic Commission.
The move comes after a coroner branded the firm "grossly negligent", recording a verdict of involuntary, unlawful killing. But North Eastern Licensing Authority Keith Waterworth says the public inquiry is not directly related to the verdict by West Yorkshire Deputy Coroner Mark Hinchliffe.
Waterworth says he will not be dealing with matters relating to the fatal tipper itself but will look at police prosecutions for alleged speeding offences and VI reports on maintenance standards. The inquest heard that Fewston was warned by one of its fitters two months before the crash that one of the crash tipper's brakes needed attention. PC David Williams of West Yorkshire Accident Investigation Branch told the hearing that none of its brakes were in a "serviceable condition".
