P&O IS URGING operators to follow its lead and claim compensation from the port of Calais for the weeks of disruption caused by berth closures.
The ferry firm is suing for millions of pounds after the port closed three of its four large ferry berths, causing delays to operators of up to nine hours. Ferry firms are claiming losses of Um a day as hauliers are forced to find alternative routes across the Channel.
A P&O spokesman says: -We have put in a claim for compensation for millions of pounds.
"Hauliers endured delays of up to nine hours although it is now around an hour. We appreciate how understanding they have been... if individual operators have been affected we would also encourage them to sue the port."
