Jack Richards’ trademark yellow trucks came about almost by accident. The firm’s first vehicle was painted red and grey, but later changed when the company added a second to the fleet. Driving through London one day, Richards spotted a line-up of ex-Lucozade S-Type Bedfords for sale and promptly bought one. However, his wife Gladys insisted the Lucozade yellow was too good to change – a point confirmed by his painter who suggested it should simply be sign-written with the company name. “I thought it was great,” says Richards, and the highly distinctive livery has remained the company’s calling card ever since.
