esF particular interest on the .CrossIL/ ley stand is the new 15-20-cwt. van. This has been designed to -meet a demand for a light, speedy vehicle of moderate load capacity, but capable of hard and 'long service. It has an engine of n ins, bore and 41 ins, stroke, rated at 15.6 h.p.,' with the cylinders cast ed bloc and having a detachable head, an unusual feature of which is that the water outlet to the radiator ' is vertical : .thermo-siphonic water circulation is relied upon, and• gravity feed
. for the petrol.. — •
Unit' construction is adopted for engine, crutch and gearbox, the clutch. being of the single-plate type and the gearbox providing .four forward speeds, with right-hand change, the gate being
mounted on an extension arm ; Mual
drive is by overhead worm. Underslung springs give good riding and a comparatively low-frame level.
Next in size is the 25-30 h.p. Crossley 30-cwt. van, which is a particularly useful type of vehicle for fast work, as it has a high ratio of power to weight and can cover long distances at speed without undue stressing or wear; despite this, it is lighter, in weight than the average commercial Vehicle, and is particularly suitable for equipping as a bus, ambulance Or fire engine. . The R.A.C. rating is 25.6 kn., and water circulation is by pump.
In this chassis there is a separate gearbox providing four speeds, and the clutch is of the cone type, the final • drive, however, being also by worm. The van is of a very handsome type, with a thoroughly well-protected cab having doors fitted with drop windows.
On the same stand is to be found the Crossley-Kegresse machine, of which the front portion is virtually the same as the 30-cwt. model, except that two auxiliary controls are provided for the Kegresse two-speed gearbox and for locking the differential. The load capacity is 30 cwt. This type of ''vehicle has pit up very fine performances in various Government trials; and is capable of traversing the most difficult country at a very -fair -speed. The whole machine conveys an,impression of strength.
