built by Tidd Strongbox Ltd of St Neots, Cambs, has been bought by William Jones (Chemical Engineers) Ltd to use at on-site demonstrations of the company's equipment.
With an overall length of 11.08m (36ft 4in) and a step of 430mm Oft 5in) the Strongbox is of laminate wall construction employing 18mm (0.7in) thick single-piece seamless panels of plywood bonded on both surfaces to glass-reinforced plastic. The raised deck is 4.67m (15ft 4in) long above the kingpin and landing gear.
A step-frame trailer was specified for two principal reasons — first, to keep the centre of gravity of the trailer as low as possible; and second, to keep the laboratory area completely dry in the event of any flooding occurring in the filtration plant area. The floor height at the rear is just under 3ft.
The chemical firm makes a filterbelt press for the mechanical dewatering of municipal and industrial sludges. The 6.41m (21ft) long lower deck is occupied by the press and a control panel while the forward portion is used as a laboratory.
