Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Peter Lane Group, the Bristol-based transport and distribution specialist has set up its own temporary drivers agency called PL Workforce to supply temporary drivers to companies throughout the South West, and group sales manager Peter Angell says that PLG plans to extend the coverage of PL Workforce to its Birmingham depot.

He explains that the move follows PLG's experience with temporary drivers: "In common with other people we had mixed results with agency drivers, so we decided to look at setting up on our own."

Angell expects to have at least 50 drivers on the agency's books by the end of the year to provide a mixture of driving skills from non-HGV to class 1 HGV drivers. It will supply drivers on a shortor long-term basis, and according to Angell they will all be experienced in general distribution work.

PL Workforce has carried out its own advertising campaign in Bristol and the South West through local newspapers and radio.

Every agency driver on its books will be guaranteed a minimum weekly wage and most are expected to be United Road Transport Union members. PLG's driver agency is being headed by Norman Bailey.

0 The Peter Lane Group has won the distribution contract to supply W H Smith's retail outlets in the South West with non-newsprint items. The company will collect goods from W 11 Smith's Swindon warehouse and transport the material using its existing general distribution fleet.
