• London busmen staged unofficial strikes last Thursday during the funeral of a colleague killed in a knife attack.
Conductor Babu Shah died in hospital after being stabbed in a row over fares. More than 1,000 of his colleagues paid tribute to him at the City of London crematorium. An official walkout had been planned by the Transport and General Workers Union to express safety fears of bus crews, but this was called off after appeals by Shah's relatives not to disrupt services. Several employees who did turn up for work gave part of their earnings to his family.
